WHY IT MATTERS
A crowd is not a plan.
Most nights go fine. The nights that do not are decided by who was at the door, who watched the exits, and whether anyone wrote it down. That is the job.
- 01
The door
Nobody owns capacity, IDs, or the lot. A problem at the entrance becomes the whole night in about a minute.
- 02
The bar
Minors, people who are already drunk, and a server who is also supposed to be security. Cut-offs fail when nobody is assigned to back them up.
- 03
The morning
An ejection, an injury, a claim. Without a written report and footage, the venue is rebuilding the night from memory.
New Mexico, in plain language
The Private Investigations Act, NMSA 61-27B, is run by the Regulation and Licensing Department. This is a summary, not legal advice.
- Nobody may act as a private investigator, private patrol operator, or security guard — or claim to be one — without a department license.
- Paid physical protection requires a private investigator or private patrol operator license.
- Working on an expired license is unlawful. Guards work under a licensed private patrol operator or operations manager.
- Applicants go through a biometric federal criminal history check.
- Only law enforcement, a licensed private investigator, or an attorney and supervised staff may offer skip tracing.
If the company is not licensed
- Civil penalty up to $1,000 a violation, and up to $2,000 for practicing without a license or registration.
- Fraudulently claiming to be licensed is a misdemeanor. Breaking a mandatory requirement can be a petty misdemeanor.
- Those sections penalize the unlicensed company, not the customer. Your exposure is the injury, the lawsuit, and an insurance fight.
Some in-house employees and certain private events are treated differently. If you are not sure you need a contract company, ask. We would rather tell you.
RATES
Published guard rates. Billed by Eleet, not the venue.
One guard per 100 guests, and never fewer than two on site. The company stays until the event is over, not only until the bar stops. These are the hourly rates on file for Carlsbad Live and the Walter Gerrells Performing Arts Center. Eleet invoices the client directly.
- Level 1Unarmed$35per hour, per guard

- Level 3Firearm certified$55per hour, per guard

$35 an hour times 3 guards times 5 hours. Add a post for every door, bar, stage, and lot the floor actually has. The state can require more.
SECURITY
Tell us the post. We staff the level it requires.

01
Unarmed guards
Doors, tickets, IDs, bags, and a calm presence in the room. Level 1 is $35 an hour per guard.
02
Armed guards
Level 2 is $45 an hour per guard, armed but not with a firearm. Level 3 is $55 an hour per guard and may carry a firearm: age 21, a high school diploma, an exam, firearms training, and certification by the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy or the NRA.
03
Executive protection
Close, quiet, and planned. Arrivals, routes, and a person whose only job is the principal. Paid physical protection in New Mexico sits under a license. Ours does.
Ongoing posts
A business that stays open after you leave needs the same standard every shift: credentials on the uniform, a post order, and a supervisor you can call.
THE SHIFT
Before the doors. During the night. After the lot clears.
Walk-through
Every entrance, exit, and blind spot. Emergency exits stay clear.
Briefing
The event, the crowd, the posts, and who is in charge.
Radios
Tested. Venue staff, police, and EMS numbers confirmed.
Plan
Evacuation routes for fire, medical, weather, and threats.
Credentials
Uniform, company ID, and state registration cards.
If alcohol is served
Alcohol sits under the Liquor Control Act, run by the Alcoholic Beverage Control Division. Eleet is the security company on the floor plan. We are not the liquor licensee, and we do not pour.
The permit
Only a dispenser liquor licensee can get a special dispenser permit. A private host cannot.
Who pours
Only the licensee and its employees, and each needs a server permit.
Approvals
The local governing body approves in writing. The property owner signs off. The event stays in the same local option district as the license.
Hours and fees
No more than 12 hours a day. The daily fee is commonly $25 for a private event and $50 for a public one.
The ratio
Plan on one security person per 100 attendees. The Director can require more, or deny the permit.
Who counts
A security company, law enforcement, or a server-permitted employee working security only.
The floor plan
Bars, security posts, serving areas, entrances, and exits.
On the wall
The permit, plus signage on pregnancy, firearms, and minors.
Conduct
No sales to minors or to people who are intoxicated. Staff do not drink.
If it goes wrong
A licensee can be liable for serving someone who was apparently intoxicated. Selling to a minor is a serious offense. Confirm the current penalty with counsel — we do not quote a figure from a secondary source.
Guards wear body cameras.
Visible recording changes how people behave, and it protects the venue and the guard from a story that did not happen.
- Ejections, confrontations, ID disputes, and any use of force are on video.
- Footage backs the incident report for police, insurers, and attorneys.
- We do not record in restrooms or dressing rooms.

INVESTIGATIONS
Facts, gathered in a way a lawyer can use.
A private investigator license is a different document from a private patrol license. Before work starts, ask to see the credential that covers your matter. We show it.

Background checks
Public records, court filings, and licenses. Identity is verified. Employment and tenant screening follows the Fair Credit Reporting Act, including written consent.
Surveillance
Public places, a time-stamped log, and dated video and photos.
Divorce and infidelity
Conduct in public, coordinated with your attorney. We stay out of phones, email, and private accounts.
Bug sweeps
Offices and vehicles inspected for cameras, microphones, and trackers. What we find is documented and preserved.
Locating family
Lawful record searches. A found relative is asked before we hand over where they are.
Fraud
Activity that does not match a claimed injury, public records, and recorded statements. Workers’ compensation and insurance included.
Predatory lending
Contracts, other buyers, and a pattern an attorney or a regulator can use. Dealership matters included.
Neglect
Witnesses, records obtained properly, photographs of conditions, and a report to authorities when abuse is suspected. Nursing homes and daycares.
Criminal defense
Under the defense attorney: witnesses re-interviewed, the scene visited, police reports and video reviewed. DWI and narcotics matters included.
Personal injury
The scene photographed, witnesses found, and video secured before it is erased.
AT INTAKE
How an investigation starts
- 1
1. Lawful purpose
We confirm a lawful reason and turn down anything that looks like stalking or harassment.
- 2
2. Conflicts
We make sure we are not already working for the other side.
- 3
3. A written agreement
Scope, rate, expenses, retainer, and how often you hear from us. Signed.
- 4
4. Honest expectations
Effort and lawful methods. Never a guaranteed result.
- 5
5. The report
Dated, factual, and clear about what was seen versus what is inferred. Originals stay unaltered. We can testify.
WHAT WE REFUSE
If a firm offers these, hire someone else.
- No trespassing on private property.
- No wiretapping, hacking, or opening phones, email, or accounts.
- No hidden GPS trackers, and no recording where the law prohibits it.
- No pretexting to get bank, phone, or medical records.
- No impersonating police or any government official.
- No paying witnesses, and no tampering with evidence.
Updates come on the schedule in the agreement, including a flag when the budget is running out. Client and subject information stays confidential.
